Abstract
PURPOSE:To quench material to be hardened uniformly so as to prevent the development of strain, by quenching material to be hardened, which has been heated to hardening temp., with turbulent flow of coolant formed by simultaneous injection of quenching coolant and compressed air. CONSTITUTION:Material A to be hardened is arranged at the central part of an annular cooling box 1 provided with coolant-injecting board 4 having many coolant- injecting holes 5 at inner circumferential surface. The box 1 is equipped at the upper and lower parts of its circumference with annular head pipe 6, 7, and nozzles 6a, 7a are made respectively at opposite surfaces. The material A to be hardened is placed on a holding stand 10 and is heated to a hardening temp. by a heater installed at a position upper than the cooling box 1. The coolant is injected from the injecting holes 5 of the cooling box 1, simultaneously compressed air in 0.25- 1.8kg/cm<2> pressure range is injected through nozzles 6a, 7a to form turbulent flow of the coolant, hereby the material to be hardened is hardened by quenching uniformly. This quenching operation can be performed also in water.
