Abstract

PURPOSE:To evenly cool the inside surface of a steel pipe over its entire surface and prevent the occurrence of uneven hardening by disposing a nozzle for feeding water into steel pipe, near one end of the steel pipe in a water tank and disposing a discharge nozzle near the other end at the time of hardening the steel pipe by water. CONSTITUTION:The steel pipe 11 having been heated to its hardening temperature is immersed in water in a cooling tank 12 in such a manner that its entire part submerges. Cooling water is jetted out into the steel pipe 11 from the cooling water jet nozzle 14 close to one end of the steel pipe 11. A cooling water discharge nozzle 15 is provided to the cooling water tank wall on the opposite side of the steel pipe 11. The cooling water jetted out from the jet nozzle 14 cools the inside surface of the steel pipe 11 and is forcefully suction-discharged from the discharge nozzle 15 and therefore it passes the inside of the steel pipe 11 at an even fast speed, whereby the inside surface of the steel pipe 11 is evenly cooled and hardened. Together with the cooling and hardening of the outside surface of the steel pipe 11 by the cooling water in the cooling water tank 12, the steel pipe 11 is hardened evenly without unevenness over its entire length.
