Abstract

PURPOSE:To subject a stainless steel strip to pretreatment for preventing deformation due to thermal stress before descaling, by carrying out immersion in a salt bath, cooling to a specified temp. range with a forced air cooling device and washing in a washing tank contg. water at a specified temp. CONSTITUTION:Before descaling in a pickling tank, an annealed stainless steel strip 2 is pretreated by immersion in an NaOH-NaCO3 salt bath at about 450 deg.C in a tank 4 and washing in a washing tank 6. In the pretreatment, the heated strip 2 leaving the tank 4 is naturally air-cooled, weakly cooled with a forced air cooling device 10 and naturally air-cooled again to the temp. range of 310+ or -10 deg.C and the cooled strip 2 is introduced into the tank 6 contg. water at 70-80 deg.C. Thus, the deformation of the strip 2 due to thermal stress is prevented.
