Abstract
PURPOSE:To inspect easily and cheaply the hardness distribution of the partially hardened part of each circular work by uniformly heating circular works laid in two layers to a predetermined hardening temp.; hardening them after being set between protective rings; and measuring the end hardnesses of each of the hardened works to nondestructively judge the hardnesses of the hardened part and the hardening depth. CONSTITUTION:Circular works 1, 1 such as bearing track rings are laid in two layers, uniformly heated in an electric furnace, and set between protective rings so that a coolant is not sprayed upon one edge of each work 1. The coolant such as a mist of water or flon gas is first sprayed upon the outer circumference parts of works 1 from mist generation nozzle 6, and then the inner circumference parts are sprayed with a liquid coolant fed through inner circumference jet 5. After detaching rings 2 works 1 are cooled to room temp. to finish hardening. By measuring the hardnesses of ends A, B, C with a Rockwell hardness tester or the like the hardness of the outer circumference part of each work 1, that of the inner circumference part and the hardening depth are judged from parts A, C and B, respectively.
