Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate the density difference among images formed successively, by preexposing a photoreceptor surface before formation of a static latent image, and controlling that light intensity enough to erase its hysteresis and so as to render the contrast of the latent image constant. CONSTITUTION:Light source 11 such as tungsten lamp as preexposing means, destaticizer 12 for erasing residual charge, primary corona discharger 13 for forming a latent image, etc. on photosensitive drum 1 are arranged above the circumference of drum 1. Source 11 is connected to means 30 for controlling preexposure. The dark area potential of the drum surface tends to rise in the case of high speed image reproduction, resulting in raising density with increase of copy number. Consequently, the voltage applied to the lamp for preexposure is gradually raised from the start of copying, and after a pause from copying cessation, when copying is again started, preexposure is beginned by controlling light intensity properly in accordance with the pause time length, thus permitting the density difference among the images formed in succession to be eliminated.
