Abstract
PURPOSE: To form images of high contrast even with the originals of obscure contrast by controlling at least one of corona dischargers and an exposure controller by the output of an original density detecting means and the output of a surface potential detecting means.
CONSTITUTION: IN the copier provided with a photosensitive drum 1, a primary charging corona discharger 4, a destaticizing corona discharger 5 for destaticizing charges on the photosensitive drum and an aperture device 38 for controlling exposure, the image density of the original 23 is detected with a light pen 21 and the surface potential on the photosensitive drum is detected with a surface potentiometer 35. Both detection outputs are inputted to a processing unit 20 using a mocroprocessor, which in turn controls the power transformer 30 of the high voltage transformer 36 of the corona discharger 4 and the power transformer 31 of the high voltage transformer 37 of the destaticizing corona discharger 5. Further, the driver circuit 32 which drives the pulse motor 39 of the aperture device 38 for controlling of exposure is controlled to set the surface potential of the photosensitive drum 1 at a dynamic range, whereby the copying images having gradation characteristic are obtained.
