Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove effectively tar mist, acidic materials and hydrocarbons from exhaust gas through a wet system by a method wherein the exhaust gas containing the tar mist, the acidic materials and the hydrocarbons is contacted with an alkali solution, then an alkali solution containing an oxidizing agent and finally water.
CONSTITUTION: Exhaust gas containing tar mist, acidic materials and hydrocarbons is introduced downward through a duct 4 into a main chamber 1b. An alkali solution is jetted 7 to a venturi scrubber 5, thereby the exhaust gas is cooled and collides with the surface of the alkali solution 6. Most of the tar mist and the acidic materials and part of hydrocarbons are removed from the gas by means of the alkali solution. The gas is supplied 21 to a tank 20 and passed upwardly through the first packed bed 23 to which an alkali solution containing an oxidizing agent is jetted 24, thereby tar mist having small particle size and low boiling hydrocarbons are removed. Then the treated exhaust gas is passed via a first demister 25 through the holes 26a of a water-receiving tray 26 and the second packed bed 27. In this case, water is jetted 28 downward to the second packed bed 27 to remove the remaining liquid droplets of the alkali solution containing the oxidizing agent. The exhaust gas is passed through a dehydrating demister 29 and discharged 22 from the tank 20.
