Abstract

PURPOSE: A new bacterium mold, Erwinia aestuosa or the like, is employed in the presence of a phosphate ester to convert purine nucleoside into 5'-purine nucleotide in high yield.
CONSTITUTION: The bacterium cells of new mold, Erwinia aestuosa or aestuabunda, or their treated product is brought into contact with a purine nucleoside as ribonucleoside in the presence of a phosphate ester in an aqueous medium wherein the pH of the medium is kept to about 3W11, preferably 5W9, temperature about 15 W70°C, preferably about 25W60°C and the mixture is incubated under standing or stirring for about 3W30hr. The purine nucleoside is converted into 5'-purine nucleotide, which is separated and collected by means of ion exchange resin or others.
