Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce S-adenosyl-L-methionine, by using treated bacterial cells of bacteria having the ability to synthesize the S-adenosyl-L-methionine from ATP (adenosine triphosphate) and methionine.
CONSTITUTION: Microorganisms to be used are selected from bacteria belonging to the genuses Alcaligenes, Proteus, Agrobacterium, Arthrobacter, Cellulomonas, etc. The bacteria are cultivated by the conventional method, and the bacterial cells are collected by the centrifugation, etc., dried and autolyzed. The treated bacterial cells in an amount of about 10W80mg/ml are then reacted with an aqueous solution containing preferably 10W20mM ATP (adenosine triphophate), preferably 5W20mM methionine and mono- and bivalent cations, and the aimed S-adenosyl-L-methionine is separated from the reaction solution.
