Abstract

PURPOSE: The enzyme reaction between adenozine-5'-triphosphate and L-methionine is effected in the presence of methionine-adenosyl transferase to produce S-adenosyl- L-methionine with high efficiency.
CONSTITUTION: In the presence of a substance containing methionine-adenosyl transferase, e.g., cells of Saccharomyces cerevisae IFO2044, the reaction of adenosine-5'-triphosphate (ATP) with L-methionine is conducted to give S-adenosly- L-methionine. The reaction is carried out in a buffer solution containing appropriate amounts of ATP, L-methionine and magnesium chloride preferably at about pH 6W9 and about 20W50°C for several hours. The addition of an methionine-adenosyl transferase activator, e.g., potassium or ammonium ion, accelerates the reaction.
