Abstract

PURPOSE: To qualify the sensitivity only to carbon monoxide and to enable the detection of low-concentration carbon monoxide, by adjusting the voltage and setting the temperature of elements of the bridge of a contact-combustion-type gas detector in a prescribed range.
CONSTITUTION: The bridge circuit of a contact-combustion-type gas detector comprises a DC or AC power surce 1, an active resistor 2, a compensation resistor 3, other resistors 4, 5, and a millivolt-meter 6. The voltage of the bridge circuit is adjusted to set the temperature of the detector at 150W230°C. The sensitivity to carbon monoxide gas is low because the molecular combustion heat of the carbon monoxide gas is smaller than that of CH4 or other hydrocarbon. Since carbon monoxide is poisonous, it needs to be detected even if is concentration is low. Therefore, the detector of high bridge voltage is used. Carbon monoxide starts burning at about 150°C lower than hydrocarbon and the sensitivity of the gas detector shows the highest at 170W200°C. The temperature of the resistors 2, 3 are set in the range of 150W230°C, in which other gases do not start buring. As a result, the detector is made sensitive to only carbon monoxide.
