Abstract
PURPOSE: To enable to use a gas detector comprising a gas detection element and a temperature compensating element, for an alarm which can be used for both liquefied propane gas and town gas, particularly town gas whose main constituent is liquefied natrual gas, by providing a prescribed element as the temperature compensating element.
CONSTITUTION: A gas detector comprises a bridge circuit B including fixed resistors R1, R2, a gas detection element M and a temperature compensating element K, a power source E for the circuit B and a load V (alarm) coupled to the output side of the circuit B. The element K has a catalyst 6, which is iron oxide or a mixture of iron oxide with MnO2 and is held on a carrier 5 bonded to a temperature compensation wire 4 so that contact combustion is not caused on methane but caused on hydrocarbon gas except for methane. The element M has a carrier 2 bonded on a platinum wire 1 and a palladium catalyst 3 held on the carrier 2. The elements K, M are heated at about 350°C. This results in raising the sensitivity to methane and enabling the use of the gas detector for both liquefied propane gas and town gas.
