Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the detecting element which is used at 150°C or less and permits selective detection of hydrogen by using palladium or platinum at the catalyst for the contact combustion type gas detecting element.
CONSTITUTION: Two coils are made by winding platinum wires 10 which are insulated by being coated with insulating coating 8 of silicon or alumina base. One of the coils is deposited thereon with palladium or platinum (black) to be made into an active resistance part 2 and the other is straightly (may be coated with alumina cement to enhance the strength) made into a compensation resistor 3. Next, a bridge circuit is constituted from said active resistance part 2, compensation resistor 3 and resistances 4, 5, whereby the detecting element is obtained (6 is volume control for zero point adjustment, 7 mV meter and 1 electric power source). Said element may be used for detection of hydrogen at temperature of 150°C or less and does not show any sensitivity at all for other gases (methane, isobutane, carbon monoxide, etc.).
