Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain at a low cost a contact combustion type carbon monoxide detecting element having a high CO-sensitivity and suitably used as a CO monitor which does not sense any other gases than CO, by using a contact combustion type gas detecting element in which a platinum coil is substituted by a nickel coil.
CONSTITUTION: A pure nickel wire is insulated by applying thereto a heat resisting insulating paint. The insulated nickel wire is formed into a coil of a suitable diameter by winding the same at several tens of turns. The circumferential surface and both end surfaces of the coiled nickel wire are further coated with an insulating material, such as alumina by a suitable method. A palladium oxide catalyst, which has the highest CO-sensitivity, is then baked onto the insulating layer of alumina. A detecting element thus obtained is installed in a bridge circuit. In order to remove the hydrogen-sensitivity from the detecting element, a necessary amount of platinum black is coated on a part of a compensating resistor. Thus, an objective detecting element is obtained. This detecting element is suitably used as an incomplete combustion preventing device for a combustion machine and a CO monitor in a coalpit.
