Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the reliability and the speed as well as widening the range of measurement in the measurement of thickness by electrically scanning plate vibrators arrayed in one line.
CONSTITUTION: Ultrasonic wave transmitting vibrators 2, 8, 10, 12, and 14 and ultrasonic wave receiving vibrators 3, 9, 11, 13 and 15 are arrayed in one line in such a manner as to constitute wave transmitting/receiving couplings by way of a sound insulation plate 7. Electrical switching is arranged for each coupling to transmit ultrasonic beams 4 and 5 from the wave transmitting vibrators 2, 8, 10, 12 and 14. The ultrasonic beam 4 reflected on the surface of the test work 6 and the ultrasonic beam reflected on the bottom of the test work are received by the wave receiving vibrators 3, 9, 11, 13 and 15 to measure the thickness of the test work 6 depending on the difference between the two beams. This enables a highly reliable measurement of thickness at a high speed as well as over a wide range.
