Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce a noise (squawk) which takes place in braking, by uniformly blending a resin and a rubber with each other, then pulverizing the mixture to make fine grains of a compound material of the rubber and the resin and using the fine grains as a binder.
CONSTITUTION: A molten novolak-type thermoplastic resin or/and a molten resol- type thermosetting resin are mixed with a rubber to obtain a compound material in which the resin and the rubber are uniformly blended with each other. The compound material is solidified by cooling and then pulverized. The pulverized material is mixed as a binder with a filler. The mixture is shaped and hardened to obtain a desired friction material. In that case, 100 parts by weight of the resin, 3 to 200 parts by weight of the rubber and 300 parts or less by weight of the filler are mixed with one another. An inorganic substance, organic substance, metal powder, carbon, graphite or the like is used as the filler.
