Abstract
PURPOSE: To produce a molded chaff plate excellent in heat retaining, sound insulating, and flame retardant properties by pressing, heating and molding a mixture of rice chaffs and/or wheat chaffs and a binder consisting of a prepolymer having terminal isocyanate groups and, if necessary, a plasticizer.
CONSTITUTION: A prepolymer is prepared from a polyether polyol with MW of 2,000W4,000 having two or more, preferably two to four, active hydrogen groups and an organic polyisocyanate having two or more isocyanate groups. Then, less than 100pts.wt. of a plasticizer (e.g. DBP) is added to 100pts.wt. of the prepolymer to form a binder. 100pts.wt. of rice chaffs and/or wheat chaffs is mixed with 3W40, preferably 7W20, pts.wt. of the binder. The mixture is molded under a pressure of 20W60kg/cm2 at a room temperature to 180°C to produce a molded chaff plate. For the organic polyisocyanate as starting material for the binder, tolylene isocyanate, for instance, is used.
