Abstract
PURPOSE:To control the arc position in the sliding straps accurately in response to the changes in the welding positions and optimally control the relative position between the sliding straps and molten pool level, by passing detection medium in the upper and lower passages of respective sliding straps at the time of overhead welding and flat welding, and detecting the temperature changes in the detection medium. CONSTITUTION:When performing all position welding, such as butt welding of steel pipes, in the case of flat position A, the detection medium, such as water, being supplied from a pipe 8 is passed into a lower pipe 8b by means of a solenoid valve 9 to enter a sliding strap 1. Then, while running through a lower passage 7', the detection medium received thermal effect proportional to the distance from the molten pool level, and is discharged from a pipe 10b, and the temperature thereof is transmitted to an indicated temperature regulator 11. When the welding proceeds to vertical position B and overhead position C, a detector 12 detects the position of the strap, and the solenoid valve 9 is actuated, so that the medium route is switched to an upper pipe 8a. Thus, the regulator 11, when a temperature higher than the set point is applied, for example, accelerates the welding head elevation speed of a motor 13, thus controlling accordingly.
