Abstract

PURPOSE: To make a decision on power-ON and reset modes and a reset mode in operation by a program, by providing an integrated circuit for a microcomputer, etc., with a clock generator and power level detecting method of detecting the state of a power supply.
CONSTITUTION: This integrated circuit is provided with power failure detector 1 detecting the state of power supply VCC to a system with CPU5 and clock generator 7 which generates clock pulses needed for the operation of the system. In addition, time FF13 is provided whose state is set by the output pulse of generator 7 and reset by a detection signal from detector 1, and it functions to let CPU5 know a time elapse in normal operation. When a reset request is sent to CPU5, CPU5 is informed of whether clocks are cut off so far by a read instruction of FF13 and a decision on the presence of the cutting-off of clocks is made by the read instruction of FF13 executed first after CPU5 is reset, thereby deciding upon the state of the power supply.
