Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove fluorine ion in phosphoric acid efficiently and cheaply with no loss of the acid by adjusting the concn. of fluorine ion-contg. phosphoric acid; extracting the ion with methyl isobutyl ketone; and separating the methyl isobutyl ketone phase.
CONSTITUTION: Fluorine ion-contg. crude phosphoric acid is extracted with methyl isobutyl ketone and washed with water to remove cations. The concn. of the phosphoric acid thus primarily refined is adjusted to 40wt% or less as P2O5. Methyl isobutyl ketone is added to the acid again, well mixed, and allowed to stand to separate the mixt. into methyl isobutyl ketone phase and aq. phase. By separating the methyl isobutyl ketone phase contg. the fluorine ion shifted, the ion in the acid is removed. The methyl isobutyl ketone used is contacted to a calcium cpd. such as slaked lime to remove the fluorine, followed by recycling.
