Abstract

PURPOSE: To continuously detect the breakdown point of an insualted wire longitudinally via its withstand voltage by inserting the wire into fibrous substance intermittently dropped with droplets and applying voltage between the fibrous substance and the conductor of the wire.
CONSTITUTION: An insulated is extruded via an extruder 9 on a conductor 8 fed from a supply bobbin 7 and colled in a coolant water tank 10. An insulated wire 11 thus formed is inserted into an electrode 12 of fibrous substance such as felt or the like and wound on a takeup bobbin 13. Water droplets 17 are dropped intermittently from a tube 16 to the electrode 12 to cause the fibrous substance to become wetty state. A voltage is applied from a power supply 14 to the electrode 12, and an eddy current detector 15 is provided in series with the power supply 14. On the other hand, the conductor 8 and the bobbin 7 are grounded. When voltage breakdown point or defective point passes through the electrode 12 such as pinhole or the like along the wire 11, it is detected to notify it via a buzzer or the like.
