Abstract

PURPOSE: To readily detect the improper point of the corrosion-proof layer for a cable laid in a tunnel or the like by detecting a leakage current of the cable by sprinkling water on the cable having the corrosion-proof layer.
CONSTITUTION: A detector which consists of a DC power supply 6, a DC ammeter 7 connected between a cable shiedling layer 3 and ground 5, water 8, water sprinkling brush 9, water supply tube such as rubber hose 10 or the like, and measuring lead wire 11 connected at one end to the brush 9 and at the other to an earth 5, is moved slowly over the surface of the corrosion-proof layer 4 of a cable to be measured. Then, water 8 is flown to enclose the entire periphery of the cable to exactly ground the portion to the earth. Thus, even if an improper point is located at any portion on the circumferential portion of the cable, water becomes a passage of the leaked current to absorb the current into the lead wire 11. It is adapted to fill surfactant in the water 8.
