Abstract

PURPOSE:To raise the efficiency of spark machining, by controlling the time of electrical current feed suspension or duty factor as a function of no-load time from the application of voltage to a machining gap to the production of discharge. CONSTITUTION:No-load time Kt from the application of voltage to a machining gap between an electrode 1 and a workpiece 2 to the production of discharge is detected at prescribed sampling time. The time Pt of electrical current feed suspension or a duty factor D=tau0/(Pt+tau0), where tau0 denotes discharge time, is controlled as a function of the no-load time Kt. The no-load pulse time Kt is detected by a detection circuit 9. The output of a pulse controller 10, whose electrical current feed suspension time Pt varies as a prescribed function based on the detection signal of the detection circuit 9, is amplified by an amplifier 11. A square-wave pulse is produced by a DC power source and transistors 7A-7N. Such control is effected that the suspension time Pt is shortened when the no-load time Kt is long and that the suspension time Pt is lengthened when the no-load time Kt is short.
