Abstract

PURPOSE: A compound containing aldehyde groups is made to act on amide and/or urea linkages in a polyamide resin that is produced under specific conditions to produce title finishing agent having high solubility in water and dispersibility and giving high hardness to cloth processed therewith.
CONSTITUTION: The polyamide is obtained by reaction between (A) organic amine compounds with 2 or more primary and/or secondary amino groups and (B) 5- sodiosulfoisophthalic dimethyl ester alone or a carboxylic mixture containing at least 2.0 equivalent % of 5-sodiosulfoisophthalic dimethyl ester based on the total carboxylic acids or their ester at a molar A/B ratio of 1/0.25W1.5 at 80W160°C and then reacting 0.5W2.0 moles of urea with 1 quivalent amount of remaining -NHR (R is H, alkyl) or -COOR' (R' is H, 1W3C alkyl). The active hydrogens in the polyamide is converted into groups of formula I and II.
