Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:1,2,3,4-Butane-tetracarboxylic acid-1,2:3,4-diimide of formula I.
USE: A raw material for various polymers, medicines, and dyes, widely used due to the formation of diimide-carboxylic acids of the cis and trans forms by the Hofmann degradation.
PROCESS: One mole of 1,2,3,4-butanetetracarboxylic acid-1,2:3,4 dianhydride is reacted with 2.0W2.3moles of urea, ammonium carbonate and/or bicarbonate at 160W180°C to give the compound of formula I.
