Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance corrosion resistance and toughness by specifying the ratio of R to M where R is an element or elements selected from one or more of rare earth elements and M is Co or an element or elements selected from the group of transition elements including Co and further replacing a part of M with Cr, Ni, etc.
CONSTITUTION: Magnet components essentially consist or R selected from one or more of rare earth elements and M selected from Co or the group of transition elements including Co, with such alloy RMz (z=4.0W5.8) having the specified ratio of 1:5. Further, a part of M is replaced by a single element or mixture of Cr and Ni in an atomic ratio of 0.02W0.30. Thus, the composition is to be SmCo4.8 or Sm(Co, Cr)4.8 with the contents in the parethesis being 0.90 and 0.01 respectively. The composition may be Sm(Co, Cr)4.8 with the contents in the parenthesis each being 0.97 and 0.03. This enhances the corrosion resistance against hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, alkali, etc, and also increases the bending strength.
