Abstract
PURPOSE:To achieve the improvement in workability, connection strength and connection accuracy by butting the end parts of optical fibers on the V-groove of a connecting member and fusion-welding the same through the fusion welding heat by the flame spray from the nozzle port of a heater. CONSTITUTION:The end parts 2 removed of covering of the covered optical fibers such as of quartz glass or the like to be connected are aligned of axes by using a glass sleeve 3 or the like having V-groove disposed on a connecting table 4. The end faces are butted to themselves and are fixed to the connecting table by means of fixing members 5. Next, a small-size flame torch 6 or the like as a heater using butane or acetylene as its fuel is used and the fusion welding heat by the flame spray of high temperature from a nozzle 7 is applied to the butt face of the connecting end parts 2, whereby they are fusion-welded and connected.
