Abstract
PURPOSE:To form the photo coupler of less coupling losses by radiating light to the photo coupler composed of the material whose quality changes and whose refractive index increase when radiated with light, by the special method thereby forming a refractive index distribution. CONSTITUTION:A photo coupler base body 20 composed of the high polymer material contained with photopolymerizable monomer which becomes a polymer of a refractive index higher than that of base polymer, such as the material comprising using the polymer of 1, 1, 3-trihydroperfluoropropyl methacrylate as a base material and evenly dispersing methyl methacrylate (MMA) therein is entered with light through the optical fiber 21 provided in the input and output position of light when it is used as a photo coupler to polymerize MMA, after which it is heated under reduced pressure to remove the unreacted MMA. The abovementiond method lets the photo coupler having the refractive index distribution wherein the refractive index becomes smaller as it goes toward the periphery from the center be formed. The abovementioned optical fiber 21 is then removed and in place of this an ordinary optical fiber is inserted and this is used.
