Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a highly sensitive liquid level detector by bending an optical fiber consisting of a core and a clad, and separating a part of the clad in the bent portion of the optical fiber so as to form a light leaking section in the optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:In an optical fiber 6 consisting of a core and a clad, the light entering the core from an LED3 is propagated at a high efficiency as the light is reflected repeatedly upon an interface between the core and clad, so that a general loss of light is minimized. A part of a bent section of the optical fiber 6 is cut to separate the clad and form an exposure surface 8 of the core, which exposure surface 8 is polished. In this polished, clad-separated portion 8 of the optical fiber 6, the leakage of light can be greatly varied by a liquid 2. Thus, a high density liquid level detector of a high output level and a large width of variations in output level utilizing a simply constructed electric circuit can be easily obtained.
