Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the loss of a quantity of light by utilizing flat plate microlens consisting of nearly semi-spherical regions having specific refractive index distributions. CONSTITUTION:The flat plate microlens 12 internally provided to the end face of a transparent substrate 11 consists of the nearly semi-spherical region having such refractive index distribution that the refractive index (n) decreases gradually the further from the plane of the substrate 11 in the optical axis (z axis) direction perpendicular to the plane of the substrate 11 and such refractive index distribution that the refractive index (n) decreases gradually the further from the optical axis (z axis) within the section perpendicular to the optical axis. A piece of the large-diameter flat plate microlens 12L having the refractive index distribution and shape similar to the refractive index distribution and shape of the flat plate microlens 12 is internally provided into one end face of the transparent substrate 11 and plural pieces of the small-diameter flat plate microlenses 12s having the similar refractive index distributions and shapes are internally provided in the other end face of the substrate 11. The optical distribution and optical coupling are thereby enabled without having the light loss arising from reflection and without generating the loss of the quantity of the light.
