Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the signal noise caused by the reflection on the element surface by providing the luminous surface tilted against the central axis of the optical fiber when the luminous surface of the luminous element is made to touch the end part of the optical fiber.
CONSTITUTION: The normal lines are not set in parallel between central axis 15 of optical fiber 14 and luminous surface 17 of luminous element 16 but made to touch each other with angle of α. And material 18 featuring the same refractive index as the core of fiber 14 is filled onto the coupled surface. As a result, light 19 propagated within fiber 14 is partially reflected by surface 17 to become light 20. As propagation angle θ1 of light 20 is large within fiber 14, the light does not propagate within fiber 14 but radiated to outside fiber 14 through the clad. In this connection, angle α formed by axis 15 and surface 17 is set larger than the maximum incident angle determined by the aperture number of fiber 14. Thus, all reflected light 20 are radiated outside fiber 14, eliminating the signal noise completely.
