Abstract
PURPOSE:To elevate coupling efficiency of a light source and an optical waveguide, by constituting a titled coupler so that a part of an optical waveguide is formed as a rotary secondary curved surface, a function for reflecting light is provided on its curved surface, and the light source is placed in the proximity of a focus of the rotary secondary curved surface. CONSTITUTION:On the tip of a core 21 of an optical waveguide consisting of cladding 22, 29, a rotary secondary curved surface 23 such as a parabolic curved surface, an elliptical curved surface, a hyperbolic curved surface, etc. is formed, so as to reflect light by performing metalic vapor-deposition, and at a focal position of this secondary curved surface, a light source 24 is placed. For instance, when the secondary curved surface is a parabolic curved surface, the light emitted from the light source 24 of the focus entirely becomes parallel light, therefore, the emitted light becomes a waveguide mode efficiently and is coupled with the optical waveguide.
