Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide the title compsn. suitable for use in airtightly sealing metal and porcelain or porcelain and porcelain by mixing MgO, BaO, CaO and Al2O3 in a specified wt. ratio.
CONSTITUTION: MgO 8W12wt%, BaO 2W6wt% and CaO+Al2O3 82W90wt% are mixed, charged into a platinum or alumina crucible, heat-melted at 1400W1600°C for 3W5hr, and well converted into glass. The amt. of CaO used is pref. 70W95pts. wt. to 100pts. wt. of Al2O3. The molten glass is rapidly cooled, coarsely crushed, and finely pulverized as required to obtain powder glass, which may be pelletized. The resulting sealing glass compsn. is very effective to prevent formation of air bubbles at a sealed part and has high heat resistance, so it is an ideal sealant esp. for the luminous tube of a high voltage sodium lump.
