Abstract

PURPOSE: To attempt to improve the characteristic and reliability of a gas sensor by using as a base material a perovskite type composite oxide and adding a vitreous material containing a transition metal as an auxiliary material.
CONSTITUTION: As a base material it is necessary to use LaCoO3 using as a raw material, for example, La2O3 and Co2O3 and also use a vitreous material of high melting point becuase the material is used at high temperatures. For example, 5pts.wt. of Co2O3 is added to 100pts.wt. of glass having a composition using CaO, B2O3 and SiO2 as base materials, and heated to make uniform the composition. Then, the composition is cooled and pulverized to be used as an auxiliary material. For example, 20W30pts.wt. of the auxiliary meterial is added to the base material, and well mixed, and polyvinyl butyral, alcohol and a small amount of DOP are added to the mixture to make the same into a slurry state. As a result, the stability of the element resistance can be remarkably improved and the reliability can be also improved.
