Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:An S6,5'-cyclopyrimidine nucleoside derivative of formula I (R is alkoxy, mercapto, or amino group; Z is H or protecting group).
EXAMPLE: S6,5'-cyclo-2',3'-O-isopropylidene-O2-methyluricine.
USE: Reagents for biochemical studies, e.g. synthetic substrates for studying the substrate specificity of the nucleic acid metabolic enzymes, such as DNA polymerase, and intermediates for the synthesis of triphosphate showing the inhibitory action on the DNA polymerase.
PROCESS: A novel 5-halogeno-S2,5'-cyclo-2-thiouridine of formula II (X is halogen; Z' is protecting group) is treated with an alkoxide to give the objective substance of formula I (R is alkoxy group).
