Abstract

PURPOSE: For efficient waste water treatment to quickly reduce COD value, desized water or other organic material-containing waste water which is easy or hard to decompose biologically is treated initially by strong oxidation and subsequently by aerobic microbes.
CONSTITUTION: Waste water used in desizing and scouring processes in the dyeing industry contains both type of organic materials, either easy or hard to decompose biologically, the former being exemplified by starch, glucose, etc., the latter by polyvinylalcohol, surfactant, etc. Such waste water is initially treated by strong oxidizing agent such as ozone, Fenton's reagent, etc. so as to modify the component of biologically hard to decompose material. The modified waste is then subjected to the treatment by aerobic microbes such as active sludge process or three-bed spray water system. The method effectively treat waste water, rapidly reducing COD value.
