Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce output loss in the internal combustion engine through on-off control of both of a cooling medium circulation pump and a heat exchange fan.
CONSTITUTION: The temperature of a cooling medium of an internal combustion engine 1 is detected by a temperature sensor 6 via a flow path 16, and a clutch 5 is decoupled when the detected temperature becomes lower than a preset temperature. As a result, the torque coupled from the engine 1 to the clutch 5 is no longer transmitted to a pump 2 and a fan 4 through respective transmission paths 12 and 13, so that the pump 2 and fan 4 are stopped. When the temperature of the cooling medium exceeds the preset temperature, the pump 2 and fan 4 are operated via the clutch 5 to increase the rate of flow of cooling medium in flow paths 9 and 14 of a heat exchanger 3 for effecting forced circulation and forced cooling.
