Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable the operation of an internal combustion engine in a high efficiency irrespective of the variation in the load by detecting the load of the engine by a load detector and varying the set temperature of a temperature controller for coolant of the engine. CONSTITUTION:An internal combustion engine 1 is cooled by (secondary) coolant cooled in a heat exchanger through which primary coolant is flowed by a variable speed pump 7. In this case, in order to control the coolant temperature of the engine 1, there are provided a temperature detector 4 for detecting the coolant temperature of the outlet side of the engine 1 and an AC unit 5 for detecting the load of the engine 1 as the output of a ganerator 2. Then, the pump 7 is controlled through a temperature controller 6 based on the outputs from the detector 4 and unit 5 to control the flow rate of the primary coolant. That is, the controller 6 controls the rotating speed of the pump 7 so that the coolant temperature by the detector 4 coincides with the set temperature determined by the engine load.
