Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the visible conversion efficiency of a fluorescent substance, by irradiating the substance powder after calcination with ultraviolet light.
CONSTITUTION: Fluorescent substance powder (F) after calcination in an oxidizing atmosphere is irradiated with ultraviolet light in the presence of oxygen; F after calcination in a reducing atmosphere, in the presence of an inert or reducing gas. The powder F after calcination is put into the vessel 1 via the inlet and outlet 10, and enclosed with the cap 11. The vessel 1 is then maintained in any one of the atmospheres of air, vacuum, oxygen, inert or reducing gas via the pipe 12, and F is irradiated with ultraviolet light from the source 9 uniformly while being agitated in the rotating vessel 1.
