Abstract

PURPOSE: To accurately measure a tooth trace by moving a measuring element or the like, which is positioned in accordance with the standard circle between a worm and a worm wheel, through a crosshead along a groove according to the lead angle of the worm wheel.
CONSTITUTION: A sliding plate 36 is broutht into abutment engagement with a standard disc 15 which is coaxial with a worm wheel so that a second sliding plate 37 is positioned by the plate 36. Then, the leading end of a measuring element 35a, which accomplishes arcuate motions through an arm 34 connected to the shaft of rotation 32 of a worm standard disc 33 abutting against the plate 37, is accurately positioned at the contact point where the warm and the worm wheel have their teeth meshing with each other. If a crosshead 45 is moved along a groove 44 corresponding to the lead angle of thw warm wheel, then the plate 37 is moved vertically in manner to correspond to the one side direction of the tangent of the lead angle so that the plate 36 is moved horizontally. As a result, the measuring element 35a is turned through the disc 33 so that the worm wheel is rotationally displaced through the disc 15. With the use of such simple construction, the tooth trace of the worm wheel can be accurately measured.
