Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture a high-bulk density polyethylene in high efficiency and economically, by the use of a highly active catalyst comprising a reaction product from magnesium chloride, a halogen-containing titanium (IV) compound, and an alclhol.
CONSTITUTION: The objective polyethylene can be obtained by polymerization of ethylene using a highly active catalyst which consists of (A) a solid reaction product from a) magnesium chloride, b) 0.1W2 moles of a halogen-containing titanium (IV) compound per mole of a), and c) at least 0.1 mole of alcohol per mole of a), (B) a titanium halide, and (C) an organoaluminum compound. The component b) is preferaly a cowpound of formula (X is halogen; R is 1W4C alkyl; n is an integer:1W4).
