Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare an ethylene polymer having a high bulk density in high yield, by using a high titanium-content polymerization catalyst composed of a specific titanium compound and an organometallic compound.
CONSTITUTION: Ethylene is polymerized or copolymerized in the presence of a catalyst comprising (A) a solid component prepared by reacting (a) a mixture provided by mechanically pulverizing (i) a magnesium halide and (ii) a titanium compound expressed by the formula (R is hydrocarbon; 0<m≤4; 0≤n≤4; 2≤m+ n≤4; X is halogen) in the absence of (iii) a monocyclic aromatic monocarboxylic acid ester, wherein (i)/(ii) is 10/0.05W3 (molar ratio), with (b) a liquid titanium tetrahalide, wherein molar ratio of (b)/(ii) is pref. ≥2, and (B) an organometallic compound of I or III group metal in the periodic table.
