Abstract
PURPOSE: To polymerize an olefin efficiently, by employing a combination of an organometallic compound and a high-efficiency catalyst component prepared by contacting a titanium compound, etc., with the reaction product between a specified organic Mg compound and hydrochloric acid, etc.
CONSTITUTION: A catalyst component is obtained by contacting the reaction product between (a) a hydrocarbon solvent-soluble organic Mg compound represented by formula I, wherein M is a metal of Group IWIII of the periodic table, a, p, q and r are each greater than 0, s is 0W1, t is greater than 0 and satisfies the relations of formulas II, III and IV, m is the valence of M, R1 and R2 are each a 1W20C hydrocarbon, X1 is H or the like, X2 is a halogen and D is an electron-donating organic compound and (b) hydrogen chloride or an organic or inorganic halide, with (c) a titanium compound and/or a vanadium compound. An olefin is polymerized in solution, in one-or multistages at a temperature of at least 120°C in the presence of a combination of the catalyst component and an organometallic compound such as an organic Al compound.
