Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a PE of large die swell, by using, as a catalyst, an organometallic compound and a solid component, obtained by the reaction of an organic Mg compound with a reaction product which is obtained by reacting a specified Al compound with a halogen-containing Ti compound etc.
CONSTITUTION: A solid product, obtained by reacting (i) an Al compound of the formula (wherein X is halogen), with a Ti and/or V compound having at least one halogen (e.g.; TiCl4), at a temperature ≥50°C, if necessary, in the presence of an inert medium, is reacted with (iii) an organic Mg compound in an inert medium at -80W150°C, to obtain a solid component (A). Ethylene is polymerized in the presence of component (A) and (B) an organometallic compound (e.g.; trialkyleluminum), by means of conventional emulsion, solution or vapor-phase polymerization.
EFFECT: A PE of a wide range of MW, with high rigidity and excellent environmental stress-crack resistance, is obtained, because the catalyst is highly active.
