Abstract
PURPOSE: To enable projection of superior image characteristics to be perfomred by applying periodical voltages to the liquid crystal layer so that the fluctuations in the periodical transmittance distribution of the grating form transparent electrodes having conductivity periodically be less than 40%.
CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal light valve 4 is of the constitution wherein a liquid crystal layer 12 is interposed between a transparent substrate 9 deposited on its surface with transparent electrodes 8 over the entire surface and a transparent substrate 11 deposited with stripe form transparent electrodes 10 having a fixed pitch, is applied with periodical voltages on its liquid crystal layer in correspondence to the image signals being supplied from the outside, is installed to the schlieren optical system including a schlieren lens 3 and projecting lens 5 and magnifies and projects the image signals supplied onto a screen 7. The fluctuation distributions of the periodical transmittances of the grating form transparent electrode substrate 11 having conductivity periodically are kept within 40%, thereby the contrast sufficient for practicability may be obtained.
