Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:Antibiotic OA-7653. Appearance white powder crystal. Elementary analysis: C, 46.10%; H, 4.47%; N, 7.18%. Specific rotatory power: [α]D23.5=+60.3° (C=0.219, water). Solubility: soluble in 0.1N NaOH, slightly soluble in 0.1N HCl; insoluble in methanol, ethanol, etc. Color reaction: positive to iodine, ninhydrin, Molisch and Ehrlich's reactions. Glutamic acid and glucose are contained as constituents.
USE: Antibacterials, particularly effective against Gram-positive bacteria.
PROCESS: Strains of the genus Streptomyces FB-5 (FERM-P No. 4573) are cultured in a liquid medium at PH 6.5W7.5 and a temperature of 28W30°C. The objective substance is adsorbed by active carbon, eluted, and purified by repeated adsorption and desorption to give the substance OA-7653.
