Specific rotatory power: [α]D20=+8.9°C(C=0.66, chloroform). Solubility: soluble in benzene, chloroform, etc., slightly soluble in water, and insoluble in n-hexane, petroleum ether. Color reaction: positive to I2, KMnO4, sulfurnic acid, and anisaldehyde sulfuric acid.
USE: Antimicrobial agent. Especially effective against anaerobic gram-positive and gram-positive bacteria.
