Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:An antitumor agent containing a high polymeric polysaccharide substance MPS-80 having the following physico-chemical properties as an active constituent: (1) Elementary analysis (%): C, 42.2; H, 6.9; O, 50.4. (2) Melting point (decomposition point): Discolors at about 262°C, and blackens at 263W264°C. (3) Specific rotatory power[α]D18=+33.2 (C=0.5%). (4) Solubility: Soluble in water, and insoluble in methanol, acetone, ether, etc. (5) Color reactions: Positive to the Molisch and anthrone reactions, and negative to the aniline-hydrochloric acid and biuret reactions, etc. (6) The freeze-dried substance is white fibrous.
USE: An antitumor agent.
PROCESS: A strain of the genus Lactobacillus or Streptococuus, e.g. Lactobacillus jugurti No. 851 (FERM-P No. 5851) or Streptococcus thermophilus No. 127 (FERM-P No. 5850), is cultivated, and the aimed substance is obtained from the culture by the separation and the purification.
