Abstract

PURPOSE: An antitumor drug having improved stability in air, prepared by using an antitumor aldehyde in the form of a specified stable thiazolidine compound.
CONSTITUTION: An antitumor drug comprising as an active constitutent 2-phenyl thiazolidine-4-carboxylic acid, which is obtained as colorless needle-shaped crystals, melting point 158W160°C, slightly soluble in cold mater, and readily soluble in the water in the form of its neutral alkali salts, by reacting benzaldehyde with cysteine according to the well-known processes. Although aldehydes are generally oxidized readily and unstable in air, said compound is stable in the air. The great activity against solid tumors, along with said stability, renders the drug fit for various uses in the treatment of the tumors such as digestive and respiratory system tumors. The daily dose is preferably 25W400mg/kg.
