Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent occurrence of blowhole and improve the thughness of an Ar-CO2 arc welding wire by restricting the composition ration of the wire.
CONSTITUTION: A welding steel wire is fabricated by the steps of fusing a mixture of less than 0.10% of carbon C, 0.30W0.65% of silicon Si, 0.90W1.80% of manganese Mn, less than 0.015% of sulfur S, 0.020W0.10% of titanium Ti, 0.0005W 0.0050% of boron B, less than 0.010% of nitrogen N as limited by weight, and the residue of iron Fe, degassing the steel wire thus formed, hot rolling the steel wire to form a steel wire, then cold drawing, annealing, cold drawing, plating copper thereon, and cold drawing the wire into a welding steel wire. The composition is thus restricted by the reason that excessive carbon content loses the drawing capacity of the wire and its toughness, excessive silicon produces blowhole, and excessive nitrogen lowers its toughness due to adverse effect of nitride contained therein.
